Figure It Out Friday - Answers for Week 2

The portrait is of Commodore George Dewey standing on the prow of the United States Flagship Olympia, and the sarcophagus is America's official Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of WWI at Arlington National Cemetery.

The link between the two is the USFS Olympia. It was not only Commodore Dewey's flagship in Manila Harbor during the Spanish American War in 1898, but also brought back the remains of the America's official Unknown Soldier of World War I to Arlington in 1921.

Today, the USS Olympia is part of the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia. Their curriculum-based educational programs are excellent.

The next time you are planning to visit Philadelphia with your family or students, consider the Independence Seaport Museum.
